About Alpha International
Alpha International is a charity formed to facilitate the
growth of The Alpha Course in the UK and worldwide. It is
closely linked to Holy Trinity Brompton, where Alpha was founded.
In addition to The Alpha Course, Alpha International promotes
the following ministries: Alpha for Students, Alpha for Prisons,
Caring for Ex-Offenders, The Marriage Course, How to Build
a Growing Church and Dynamic Prayer in the Local Church.
It is a registered charity (no: 1086179) and a company limited
by guarantee, registered in England and Wales (no: 4157379).
The Directors of Alpha International are Mr Ken Costa, The
Reverend Nicky Gumbel, Miss Tricia Neill and The Reverend
Prebendary Sandy Millar.
The Directors of Alpha International are:
Ken Costa - Vice Chairman of the Investment
Bank, UBS Warburg Ltd. He is also Church Warden of Holy Trinity
Brompton where he preaches regularly. He is Chairman of Alpha
Partners, the fundraising arm of Alpha International.
Nicky Gumbel - Practised as a barrister
for 6 years before being ordained into the Church of England.
He joined Holy Trinity Brompton as curate in 1986 and took
over the running of their Alpha course in 1990. In 1996 the
Bishop of London appointed him as an Alpha Chaplain. He speaks
regularly at national and international Alpha conferences
and is the author of several books including Questions of
Life, which has sold over 750,000 copies, has been translated
into 36 languages and was voted ‘Christian Book of the
Year’ in 1994.
Tricia Neill - Worked with Shell for seven
years in the Middle East before joining World Trade Promotions
as the Exhibitions Director. In 1990 she moved to News International
Exhibitions and in 1993 was asked to join the staff at Holy
Trinity Brompton as the Executive Director of Alpha International.
Sandy Millar - Practised as a barrister
for 10 years before being ordained into the Church of England.
He joined the staff of Holy Trinity Brompton as curate in
1976, becoming Vicar in 1985. He was Chelsea Area Dean from
1989-1994. He was installed as a Prebendary of St. Paul’s
Cathedral (Pancratius) in 1997. In October 2003, in a unique
initiative for the Church of England, he was inducted into
the additional role of Priest-in-Charge of the north London
parish of St. Mark Tollington Park. He is married to Annette
and they have four children.
